Anna was OK, although her phrasing could have been better, and she sometimes struggled to fit her German into the fast tempos.
As much as I love JDF, Edwin is definitely not his role. First of all, it is not in his range – that’s why he had to change registers a lot. Also, neither he nor any other male performers seem to have fun with the score. How is this possible to sing Kalman without having fun?1?

Unbelievable. I remember distinctly the same “expectations” last year for Netrebko’s Macbeth… And the notion that this is somehow for international audience only, that German audience is not interested in Anna Netrebko and JD Florez is the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard in some time…
