At my behest, it was staged by the Ohio Light Opera in 2006. Their research found the most “recent” performances they could trace had taken place in St. Louis in 1921. Score and parts came for the OLO production from the renowned Nischkauer archive in Vienna. In 2019 I persuaded the Victorian Lyric Opera Company in Rockville, Maryland to stage the work, which they did in a semi-staged concert version. I’ve always felt that Strauss took extra care with this score, in part to avoid a repeat of the failure that was “Blindekuh” just two years before. And what a wonderful score it is!
