Re Offenbach "La Vie" Yes. The Farnie and Hammersmith English versions were appalling. However the Sadler's Wells production was much better till, in the revivals, some stupid idiot decided to do away with Frick (on their L.P.) & Prosper with the Brazilian (Pompa dos Matadores which is a joke, since the Portuguese speakers don't have bull-fighting) throughout. There seem to be two more versions by Offenbach. I'm not very impressed by the Arte version on youTube (& repulsive "production). I like the five acts version abridged. Does anyone know about the Arte version with "bouillabasse" (yes!) & " Jean le cocher"? Perhaps it's from sketches. I translated a few bars for Bote ( to add to my 5 & 4 acts versions) but it had the early DANISH couple, later in the five act version as Swedish. Of course productions/versions were modified during runs.
