In the case of Strauss, Goebbels had his birth certificate changed, so he could stay 100% “Aryan”. And Tauber was forced to leave German as early as March 1933, after he was severly beaten up by Nazi troops. he went to England and continued his career there. After the war, he recorded his greatest hits with Franz Lehar in Switzerland, shortly before he died. It’s an incredibly moving sound document (and includes one of the best versions, ever, of ‘Immer nur lächeln’.)
