4 July, 2014
Tonight, right in the heart of Berlin and next to the football “Fan Mile”: A “Classic Ladies” concert on Gendarmenmarkt, with Anna Maria Kaufmann as Mistress of Ceremonies. She will sing bits of Csárdásfürstin for her friend Yvonne Kálmán, who is flying in especially from Los Angeles. There are also Katarzyna Dondalska and Adriane Queiroz who will both present operetta titles.
The weather forcast for downtown Berlin is: sunny evening skies! Which is a small operetta wonder in itself after weeks of rain and eternal grey. The “Classic Ladies” concert is part of the annual open-air festival on Gendarmenmarkt. Anna Maria Kaufmann presented operetta there before. This time, she and the management are focussing on “Frauen-Power” – powerful women strutting their stuff. Apart from Miss Kaufmann singing musicals and pop songs, and some operetta, there is Berlin’s new operetta darling Katharine Mehrling with Piaf and Judy Garland titles. Also, as part of the program, there will be sopranos Katarzyna Dondalska and Adriane Queiroz who will each present opulent operetta numbers, including Lehár’s “Meine Lippen sie küssen so heiß”.
The ladies will be accompanied by the Neue Elbland Philharmonie Sachsen, conducted by GMD Christian Voß.
By the way, you can listen to Miss Kaufmann singing Kálmán on a complete disc dedicated to the music of the Hungarian-American composer. For details, click here.
