The poster might not look particularly innovative, but the Quickchange Company in the Swiss town of Zug will present “Operetta in Pocket Format” during the Zuger Operettensommer. They reduce classics to one-hour events. This week, Die Fledermaus in on the program.

They are showing it with nine soloists, three musicians, and a chorus of three. The performances will last 75 minutes, there is no interval.

The other shows on offer the season are W. R. Heymann’s Die Drei von der Tankstelle, My Fair Lady and The Wizard of Oz. (Not the Victor Herbert extravaganza, that’s for sure. Not even in pocket size format.) Whatever you think of the pocket idea, it’s a nice mix of Austrian, German and US-American operetta, old and not so old.
